Common questions
Through us you can carry out projects of various types: theses, internships, course projects and what we call short missions. You can also participate in our Challenge, organized a couple of times each year.
You can write your thesis on either bachelor's or master's level. Writing a thesis is compulsory when completing a degree. Why not writing a thesis that contributes to the development of a company or an organization? A win win situation, where all parties gain from it.
To do an internship is an effective way to gain insights into an industry and to learn more about how you can apply the knowledge you have gained through your education. You are usually working on site at the company or organization and with a specified task during the internship period. In many cases, the internship period can be adapted to the requirements of your educational program and the client. All of Sustainalink's internships are done as part of your education and require you to be enrolled in an internship course.
Course project means that you do a project for a company within a specific course in your education. Sustainalink collaborates with several courses at Lund University, Kristianstad University and Malmö University Faculty of Technology and Society. If you know that you are going to complete a project within an upcoming course and are interested in one of our exciting projects, you are welcome to contact us.
If you want a golden opportunity to make contacts and gain experience that stand out on the CV you should do a short mission. A short mission you carry out in parallel with your studies. Usually, two students execute the project together and you are expected to spend 10-20 hours, distributed freely over a month from the start of the mission. Some of the short missions require that you have studied for a few years while others can be completed from your very first day as a student.
When you participate in a Challenge, you get to collaborate with students from other study fields. Togeather with your group you take on shorter projects together with companies and organizations facing various sustainability challenges. A Challenge consists physical meetings where you get the opportunity to make contacts with all actors involved and some remote work between the meet ups. Sounds like something for you? Start by browsing our current projects and apply to one or more projects that you find most interesting. If you are applying for a thesis, you should also attach your CV, personal letter and your grades from uni, i. e. a document you can get from your university that shows what courses you have taken and your grades. You can also make a general registration of interest to us. We will then contact you to discuss what opportunities are available at the moment. If you have any questions about any of our current project suggestions, you can always email or call us.
The educational background required to conduct a project varies, but what is required for each individual project is stated in the project description. Sometimes we look for a very specific competence, but usually the prerequisites are more open. If you are unsure whether you have the correct prerequisites for a project, call or send an email to the contact person at Sustainalink for more information. Even if you do not meet the requirements stated in the description, you might still have practical experience that outweighs this.
In order to carry out our projects it is required to be a student at Lund University, Kristianstad University, SLU Alnarp or Malmö University Faculty of Technology and Society. In a few cases we make exceptions so if you study at another Swedish university you can always contact us and we will provide more information about the project you are interested in.
The number of students applying for a specific project varies a lot. Although, if you are interested in a project it pays off to apply as soon as possible, since "first-come-first-served" applies if more than one student, with the right competence, apply for the same project.
All projects start with a meeting where your contact at Sustainalink, gives you more information about the task and about the company or organization that you are going to collaborate with in the project. After the meeting, you will receive the company's contact details so you can schedule a meeting with them. If you are writing a thesis, it is also your responsibility to find a supervisor at the university. Throughout the project you have your contact at Sustainalink, possible to contact in case you want to discuss ideas or if problems arise. The project ends with a written report and you presenting the results orally for the company. The extent of the report depends on the type of project you are doing (in other words, a report for a mission is much shorter than a thesis report).
When you have submitted the report and presented your work, we will send you a project evaluation. If you have completed a short mission, you will also receive a certificate of the project. Your report will be given to the client and, depending on the project form, possibly posted on a university portal. If you want to take on more projects, just take a look at our current projects and apply again.
