A methodology for measuring and tracking Scope 3 emissions<\/h1>\n

Nordic Waterproofing (NWP) is one of the leading providers in the waterproofing market across Northern Europe. The Group develops, manufactures, and distributes a comprehensive range of products and solutions designed to protect buildings and infrastructure. In Sweden, production is based in H\u00f6gan\u00e4s, where roofing felt is produced under the brands Mataki and Trebolit. In addition to development and manufacturing, the company also offers installation services for these products, as well as maintenance services.<\/p>\n

Sustainability is a key priority for NWP, which holds certifications in ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. The company is committed to achieving carbon neutrality within scope 1 and 2 by 2030, and within scope 3 by 2050. Background<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The GHG Protocol (Greenhouse Gas Protocol) is the world\u2019s most widely used framework for measuring, calculating, and reporting greenhouse gas emissions in a consistent and comparable way. The standard enables different actors - companies, organizations, and cities\u2014to use a common \u201clanguage\u201d for climate emissions. Emissions are divided into Scope 1 (direct emissions from own operations), Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased energy), and Scope 3 (other indirect emissions across the value chain).<\/p>\n

The GHG Protocol actually consists of a suite of standards, where the Scope 3 Corporate Value Chain Standard describes how to identify, measure, calculate, and track the 15 Scope 3 categories. This is one of the most important but also most complex parts of the GHG Protocol. For many companies, Scope 3 accounts for 70\u201395% of total emissions, which makes this part especially critical.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Task<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The assignment aims to map how Nordic Waterproofing can measure and track reductions in CO\u2082 emissions within Scope 3, either by applying the GHG Guide (Greenhouse Gas Protocol) or by developing a proprietary methodology. The study should serve as a structured plan for continued data collection and emissions tracking and include which emission factors should be used. \u00a0The task can most easily be carried out using Excel and supplemented with a written report that addresses any methodological limitations and includes recommendations and other relevant considerations.<\/p>\n

Currently, 94.9% of the company\u2019s emissions are allocated to Scope 3. The majority of these emissions originate from purchased goods and services (93%), followed by upstream transportation and distribution (5%).<\/p>\n

Within the scope of this project, the focus will be on upstream impacts. In collaboration with Nordic Waterproofing, the most relevant emission categories will be identified and prioritized. The objective is not to conduct a large number of calculations, but rather to develop a robust and practical methodology for measuring and tracking emissions.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
