Thesis

Climate Calculations in Practice – Develop a Tool for CO₂ Analysis

Do you want to make a real difference – using climate data, business systems, and technology as tools? Automationspartner is currently looking for one or two driven students to conduct their thesis in a highly relevant area: climate calculations in accordance with the GHG Protocol.

Client

Automationspartner designs and delivers automated production lines to some of the world’s leading medtech and pharmaceutical companies. The company has 65 employees based in Helsingborg, with sales agents in the USA and Ireland. Its main strengths lie in Swedish engineering combined with innovation, sustainability thinking, and efficiency

Task

To set science-based climate targets in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Automationspartner needs to understand its climate impact – today and in the future. The purpose of this thesis is therefore to develop a calculation tool, preferably in Excel, that can smoothly and clearly calculate and visualize the company’s emissions according to the three levels of the GHG Protocol:

Scope 1 – Direct emissions from the company’s operations (e.g., vehicles, heating systems)

Scope 2 – Indirect emissions from purchased energy (electricity, heating, and cooling)

Scope 3 – Other indirect emissions in the value chain (e.g., purchases, suppliers, travel, waste)

The thesis also aims to identify potential for improvement – where in the value chain does the company have the greatest opportunity to reduce its emissions?

The project will largely be based on existing data. Automationspartner uses the business system Monitor ERP, where much of the relevant information is already available. The company has also conducted benchmarking, stakeholder analyses, and early assessments, all of which you will have access to.

The final focus and scope of the project will be determined in collaboration with supervisors from both the university and the company.
